In 1985, my father planted his first vegetables by hand in the cool soil of Kundasang, beneath Mount Kinabalu. There were no machines and no shortcuts — only early mornings, cold mist over the hills, and a man who believed the land gives back what you give to it.
For twenty-five years he farmed that way. Then in 2010, at an age when many would slow down, he chose to learn something new and brought drip irrigation to the farm — every plant given just the water it needs, drop by drop, nothing wasted.
That same year, I took the first step on my own path: bringing fresh vegetables to businesses in Kota Kinabalu. I called it Kausar Enterprise. Today, from our lot at the Vegetable Wholesale Market in Donggongon, we deliver every day to hotels, hospitals, supermarkets and fresh marts.
In 2015, my elder brother brought hydroponics to the farm, learning beside our father, who carried on with his drip lines. A father and his son, side by side, each growing in his own way — and I, the daughter, carrying their harvest to the city.
My brother also gave our packed vegetables a name of their own: Hasil Tani Nayim. It is the brand we still pack and sell under today, and every pack carries a little of him.
In 2025 we lost my brother — suddenly, and far too soon.
The farm grew quiet. But my father did not stop. He kept tending the land alone, as he has done all his life.
He is older now, and some loads are too heavy to carry alone. So at the end of 2026, I took up the work beside him. Kausar Enterprise now grows on the same Kundasang land, with the same care — for my father, and in memory of my brother.
Some of what we deliver is grown by our own family. The rest we choose with the same eye, from growers we trust.
A father, a son and a daughter. One family, one farm — still growing good food, honestly, for the people of Sabah.
